Juventus have decided to fine defender Pierre Kalulu after his costly red card against Lazio during Saturday’s 1-1 draw in Serie A — a result that could prove pivotal in the Champions League qualification race.
The French defender was sent off in the 60th minute for violent conduct, just nine minutes after Randal Kolo Muani had given the Bianconeri the lead.
Juventus looked in control until the dismissal, after which Lazio dominated the final stages and equalised through Matías Vecino in the 96th minute.
How Much Will Juventus Fine Kalulu for Lazio Red Card?
According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus will impose an internal fine of €50,000–€60,000 on Kalulu for his unsporting behaviour — a decision that aligns with the club’s strict disciplinary code.
Kalulu is also expected to receive a two-match suspension, which effectively ends his Serie A season. However, he will still be eligible to return for Juventus during the FIFA Club World Cup in June.
This is Juventus’ second red card for violent conduct in three matches, with Kenan Yildiz also being dismissed during the 2-0 win over Monza earlier this month.
Fabio Capello Reaction to Kalulu Red Card
Former Juventus manager Fabio Capello didn’t hold back in his assessment of the incident, blaming Kalulu’s “stupid gesture” for derailing what looked like a vital win in the top-four race.
“The game was ruined by Kalulu’s sending off,” Capello told La Gazzetta. “Juventus started looking determined, they created dangerous situations for Lazio. The red card changed everything.”
Capello added that the incident would likely not have led to a VAR review in the Premier League.
“In England, they wouldn’t have even taken this incident under consideration. But these days, players throw themselves on the ground and hope for VAR, which often rewards them.”
Juventus Planning Summer Squad Overhaul After Discipline Issues
Kalulu’s red card adds to growing concerns within the Juventus hierarchy about the squad’s mental discipline and composure in high-stakes matches.
With multiple players suspended in recent weeks, the club is expected to reinforce key positions this summer.
One of the names reportedly under consideration is Jonathan David, who is in advanced talks with Napoli over a free transfer.
