Lazio midfielder Daichi Kamada confirmed that he is leaving the club this summer, citing ‘difficulties’ in negotiating with president Claudio Lotito. The Japanese international had the option to remain with the Biancocelesti, but speaking to Football Zone, he responded indirectly to Lotito’s recent comments about no longer succumbing to the demands of players he considered mercenaries:
“The only thing I’m sure of is that I will leave Lazio. Initially, I wanted to stay, but negotiating with Italians is never easy. In particular, Lazio’s president is known for being one of the toughest to deal with. I simply wanted to sign for just one year and asked for nothing more, as I was paid well enough. This is where we couldn’t reach an agreement. I don’t know what my agent told the club, but the only thing I wanted was a one-year contract.”
Kamada continued, highlighting his positive relationship with the coach:
“I spoke often with the coach this season. He took care of me, and we frequently discussed the possibility of my renewal. We remained in touch even after I decided to leave. I didn’t have a bad breakup with the coach. He’s the type of coach I would still like to work with.”
