Teun Koopmeiners has presented a new medical certificate to Atalanta, making himself unavailable for potential team selection. This comes after his previous certificate for psycho-physical stress expired on Sunday. The Dutch midfielder’s latest move further distances him from returning to train with the squad in the coming days.

Calciomercato report how the recent official arrival of Lazar Samardzic at Atalanta is not directly linked to Koopmeiners’ potential departure. However, with Samardzic possessing similar characteristics to the Dutch player, Atalanta feels more protected in the midfield department.

Atalanta is currently evaluating whether there’s room to mend the situation or if they should decisively move towards a transfer. The situation is further complicated by Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in Ademola Lookman.

In the background, Koopmeiners has already reached an agreement with Juventus, and the two clubs have virtually agreed on a deal worth €52 million plus €7 million in bonuses. However, Atalanta has so far resisted this offer.

Luca Percassi, Atalanta’s CEO, addressed the situation: “We were prepared for possible turbulence, though we didn’t expect certain things. We have always respected our commitments. Often, players are suggested inappropriate things, but they are all Atalanta players, and the club will decide for Atalanta’s benefit. We’ll see what happens in the coming days.”

Atalanta’s coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, also commented on the situation after the team’s victory in Lecce: “These are players to whom I owe a lot for what they did last season, and who have had a very sincere relationship with me even during this period. It’s unfortunate that this situation exists at a time when the championship is ongoing.”

The coming days will be crucial in determining the future of Koopmeiners and potentially reshaping Atalanta’s midfield for the season ahead.
