Roma have confirmed that defender Marash Kumbulla has undergone surgery on his right knee but isn’t expected to return until 2024. The Giallorossi centre-back was injured during their 1-1 draw with Milan at the end of last month and the club have now officially confirmed that the operation to reconstruct his anterior cruciate ligament was a success:

Marash Kumbulla underwent surgery on his right knee today, to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament.

The surgery, carried out by Doctor Andrea Panzeri at the Casa di Cura La Madonnina in Milan, in the presence of AS Roma Health Director Massimo Manara, was completed successfully.

The footballer will remain in the Milan clinic for a few days and will soon start his rehabilitation protocol at the Fulvio Bernardini Sports Center.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Kumbulla faces a ‘long and painful’ rehabilitation cycle that will likely see him return at the beginning of next year. The defender remained optimistic about returning to the pitch, saying: ” I will use this time to come back even stronger and to change things, I assure you,”
