Simone Inzaghi Provides Concerning Lautaro Martinez Injury Update

Start

Simone Inzaghi has provided a concerning Lautaro Martinez injury update after Inter’s stunning 3-3 draw with Barcelona on Wednesday.

The Nerazzurri ended their three-game losing streak after an absorbing encounter at Olympic Stadium in Montjuic. Marcus Thuram opened the scoring with an exquisite flicked finish inside the first minute.

MVP Denzel Dumfries then doubled Inter’s advantage when he hooked home from close range midway through the first-half.

Lamine Yamal’s brilliance shone through for the Blaugrana when he tricked his way through the Nerazzurri defence and curled in a superb effort.

Ferran Torres ensured the sides went in for the interval at 2-2. The Spaniard scored after a neat header from Raphinha teed the forward up just four six yards from the target.

In the 64th minute, Dumfries scored his second goal of the evening when he headed home from a Hakan Calhanoglu. However, Barca equalised for a second time when Raphinha’s rasping effort hit the cross bar and bounced in off Yann Sommer.

Lautaro Martinez Injury Update

The latest Lautaro Martinez injury update doesn’t bode well for Inter ahead of the second leg at the San Siro on May 6.

Martinez was hooked at half-time after complaining of a muscle injury. Mehdi Taremi replaced the Nerazzurri captain for the second half.

He felt a twinge, but had been playing eight games in a row. Unfortunately, we had these little issues, as I didn’t have Thuram, Taremi was also coming off an injury and I wasn’t able to rotate,” explained head coach Simone Inzaghi.

When you start eight matches in a row, there is the risk of injury, I hope it’s nothing too serious, but I do have a few doubts.”

Inter’s medical staff will be assessing Martinez’s injury over the coming days and it’s unlikely he’ll feature in the Serie A clash against Torino on Sunday.

Having the Argentine World Cup winner for the return league is arguably the priority for Inzaghi right now.
