Speaking In a recent interview with Lazio’s official radio station, the club’s Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani provided insights into their January transfer window activities and overall squad management approach. Fabiani addressed several key topics, including new signings, rejected offers for current players, and the decision-making process behind squad selections.
Regarding the club’s new acquisitions, Fabiani stated, “We identified three profiles in line with the club’s program. These were all players we were already following. Even Provstgaard fits our project, and time will tell if we’ve made the right choice.”
Fabiani revealed that Lazio received offers for players like Nuno Tavares and Romagnoli but chose to retain them at manager Baroni’s request. “We’ve rejected several million euros in offers. This shows we’re committed to our three-year plan, and we’re currently about 50% through our journey,” he explained.
On the topic of transfer market management, Fabiani clarified the club’s structure: “Each of us has a specific role. There’s a president who provides a budget and sets guidelines, while the sporting director ‘coaches’ the coach, who in turn coaches the players. This chain is interconnected.”
Addressing rumors about missed opportunities, Fabiani was particularly candid about Cesare Casadei: “I’m not in favor of complicated arrangements. I was told to also take Sylla, but we weren’t interested.” He dismissed claims that manager Baroni desperately wanted certain players, calling such assertions “a big lie.”
Regarding Luca Pellegrini’s exclusion from the Serie A list, Fabiani explained, “The evaluation and inclusion in the list is the manager’s responsibility. He decides based on his project, and it’s up to us to support his thinking.”
Fabiani concluded by emphasizing the club’s satisfaction with their current position: “We’ve done well in this first part of the season, so I must applaud the manager and all the players.”
