An associate of Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has confirmed that the businessman has made a bid to takeover Sampdoria. The Blucerchiati have endured a torrid season following reports that they had failed to pay their players, with the campaign capped off by their relegation from Serie A.
An American investment group, Merlyn Partners, had attempted to finalise a takeover with owner Massimo Ferrero, however talks between the two parties failed.
Genoa based newspaper Il Secolo XIX newspaper interviewed Matteo Manfredi, the CEO of Gestio Capital and business partner of Radrizzani, who confirmed that there is a binding offer to take over Sampdoria:
OFFER – “We sent a binding offer on Friday to take over Sampdoria. We are ready to proceed to close it. Yesterday we reached an agreement with the banks, for the full payment of all their credits. In addition to this, we are ready to immediately invest €55 million for the salvation and relaunch of Sampdoria, plus another €20 million is already available. Furthermore, there are a number of institutional investors who are examining the dossier, who are interested in supporting us and with whom we are in close contact.”
MEETING WITH BUCCI – “On Wednesday we came to Genoa and spoke with Mayor Bucci. Because our project involves the revaluation and, why not, also the purchase of the Stadio Ferraris. We are also already in contact with 777 Partners, who own Genoa.”
SAMPDORIA – !For us, Sampdoria is not a recent story, we have been following it since 2018. Considering our history, it is evident how this environment, that of football, is known to us. Radrizzani owns a team, Leeds, in the Premier League. We have worked hard in the last few days and, I repeat, we are ready.”
