Lippi: “Winning the Champions League with Juve was more Important than the World Cup”

Former Juventus and Italy coach Marcello Lippi admitted that winning the Champions League with the Bianconeri trumped the Azzurri’s World Cup triumph. The veteran coach was speaking at the Serie A Festival, and touched on his managerial career, particularly his time in Turin with The Old Lady:

“The Juve jersey is indeed heavy, but alongside the weight and the responsibilities, there’s also the satisfaction of representing one of the most important clubs in the world. When you achieve good results immediately under these circumstances, it’s a wonderful feeling.”

“Was the victory in Rome in ’96 or Berlin in 2006 more beautiful? The first one was more beautiful because the other came ten years later, after ten years of great successes. In that period, we won five league titles, reached four Champions League finals, and won everything there was to win. There was the awareness that we had reached very important team levels. Then the National team came along, and becoming world champion was fantastic, but it came after ten years of great successes. So, I think the first one was more important.”
