Liverpool could make a U-turn over Federico Chiesa as Mohamed Salah continues to be linked with a move away.

Liverpool Make Chiesa U-Turn Amid Salah Unrest

Federico Chiesa’s future with Liverpool could take another twist as the Reds are planning to keep a hold of the Italian after the recent controversy involving Mo Salah.

The Egyptian’s controversial interview after Liverpool’s 3-3 stalemate with Leeds has been one of the biggest talking points this season, as Salah claimed the Reds had ‘thrown him under the bus’ and questioned his relationship with Arne Slot.

Salah was left out of Liverpool’s squad for the 1-0 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League on December 9th, despite Slot’s claims over struggling against the Nerazzurri.

Chiesa was once again left out of the Liverpool squad and continued a disappointing season in Merseyside, as the Italian is yet to make a start in the Premier League or Europe.

The 28-year-old joined Liverpool in August 2024 after a strong run in Italy, but Chiesa made just six league appearances in the Reds’ run to the title.

Supporters have called for Chiesa to be utilized on a more regular basis after some impressive cameos from the bench, but Slot has shown no signs of playing the Italian.

This lack of playing-time has sparked rumors over a move away from Liverpool in January and the Italian appeared to be heading back to Serie A.

However, the recent controversy around Mohamed Salah has left Liverpool in a precarious position and the Reds are now reconsidering their position over Chiesa’s future.

Chiesa Not Set On Serie A Move

Although moving back to Italy is the most likely outcome for Chiesa, the Liverpool star is also willing to consider other options from across Europe.

Fiorentina are currently front-runners to re-sign their former talisman, as Moise Kean could leave in January, but Chiesa has questions after La Viola’s horrific start to the season.

Juventus, Atalanta and Napoli have also been linked with the 28-year-old, but Chiesa has also attracted interest for France.

Marseille are reportedly considering a move for the Liverpool star in January as Roberto De Zerbi believes he can get the best out of his fellow Italian.

Chiesa is desperate to find some regular playing-time in hopes of breaking back into the Azzurri squad for the 2026 World Cup – holding talks with Gennaro Gattuso over a return.

The Italian still has three-years remaining on his current deal in Liverpool and the Reds may be harsher in negotiations if Salah’s future is not sorted before the January window.
