Former Inter Milan and Bayern Munich star Lothar Matthaus revealed that ex-Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel was close to joining Juventus. The German World Cup winner was speaking with Goal Deutschland and explained that after leaving the Blues, there was the brief prospect of the Champions League winning coach arriving in Turin:
“Tuchel was close to a move to Juventus. Bayern was nervous, Tuchel was free and Bayern did not believe in Nagelsmann 100 percent. They couldn’t fire him when he was going to win three titles, so they decided to fire him right away.”
“It was a big surprise for many, not only for me. Nagelsmann did a good job and won the Bundesliga. Maybe he was not so good in the Champions League but it was his first year. He still won against PSG, Inter, Barcelona both times. In Bundesliga he was not perfect but he was not far from the trophy. At first I thought it was a joke but it was not April 1. Something must have happened at Bayern to make that decision.”
