Lazio president Claudio Lotito says Maurizio Sarri’s resignation from the club was not expected. The Biancocelesti patron was speaking to TG1 about Sarri’s surprising decision to leave Lazio last week, saying he believes the manager was ‘betrayed’ by certain individuals:
“His departure was not expected. I was in a finance meeting when I was informed of his resignation. He was somewhat betrayed by the behavior of some individuals. There is something insidious within the group… A team that beats Bayern Munich and then loses to Udinese and others… You need to ask yourself a question.”
On the new coach, Martusciello, Lotito mentioned, “There is no deadline; we will continue with him this weekend. This team needs a coach who uses both the stick and the carrot. Today, the team is its own referee. It has no more excuses and cannot shift its responsibilities onto others.”
