Luca Jovic Close to Completing Move to Cruz Azul After Milan Exit Confirmed

Start

Luka Jovic’s time at AC Milan is over, with reports from Mexico and Italy confirming the Serbian striker is on the verge of signing for Liga MX side Cruz Azul.

The 27-year-old will leave San Siro on a free transfer after Milan opted not to extend his contract beyond June 30.

AC Milan Decide Not to Renew Luka Jovic Contract

Milan’s decision not to activate the extension clause in Jovic’s contract effectively sealed his exit. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the clause expired on June 20, and no further negotiations took place.

Jovic joined the Rossoneri in September 2023 from Fiorentina for a modest fee of €500,000. While he was never a consistent starter, he did make an impact in key moments—most notably his brace against Inter in the Coppa Italia semifinal, which helped Milan secure a 3-0 second-leg win and a place in the final.

During his two seasons in red and black, Jovic recorded 13 goals across 47 appearances in all competitions.

Cruz Azul Push to Sign Jovic on Free Transfer

Reports from Record in Mexico, relayed via CalcioMercato, suggest Cruz Azul are growing increasingly confident of securing the Serbian forward’s signature.

Sporting director Ivan Alonso has reportedly been in direct contact with Jovic’s representatives and is pushing to make the former Real Madrid striker a marquee addition.

The Mexican giants are prepared to beat out European competition for his services. Brazilian side Botafogo has also shown interest, but Cruz Azul appears to be leading the race.

Jovic Eyes Fresh Start Away From Europe

At 27, Jovic may see this move as an opportunity to revive his career outside the European spotlight.

After stints with Eintracht Frankfurt, Real Madrid, Fiorentina, and Milan, the striker is looking for more consistent playing time and a central role—something that has eluded him since his breakout 2018–19 season in the Bundesliga.

For Milan, his departure opens the door to fresh attacking reinforcements under new coach Massimiliano Allegri. With Tammy Abraham returning to Roma and Jovic on his way out, the Rossoneri’s forward line is due for a significant overhaul.
