Man City Push for Tijjani Reijnders in Potential €80m AC Milan Transfer

Start

Manchester City are stepping up efforts to sign Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan, with Pep Guardiola identifying the Dutch midfielder as a top priority ahead of a summer rebuild.

According to multiple sources in Italy and the UK, the Premier League champions have made contact with Milan and are preparing an opening bid worth €70 million, hoping to secure a deal before the summer transfer window opens.

Why Man City Want Reijnders

Pep Guardiola is believed to be a long-time admirer of Reijnders’ profile. The City boss views the Dutchman as a player who fits seamlessly into his possession-based, high-intensity system.

The 26-year-old has been one of Serie A’s standout midfielders this season, delivering consistent performances in a struggling Milan side.

In over 40 appearances, he’s demonstrated a savvy blend of ball progression, tactical discipline, and versatility, capable of operating as a No. 8, in a double pivot, or even further forward when needed.

Tijjani Reijnders Value

Although Reijnders signed a new contract in March 2025 — extending his stay at Milan until 2030 — that hasn’t deterred City. What it does do, though, is it strengthens Milan’s position, allowing them to demand a fee upwards of €80 million.

That valuation would surpass the club’s record sale of Kaka to Real Madrid in 2009, making Reijnders’ potential move the biggest outgoing transfer in AC Milan history.

Milan are reportedly open to negotiating if that price tag is met, especially as the club faces the prospect of missing out on Champions League qualification, a factor that could influence player retention this summer.

Can Man City Afford Reijnders?

According to reports from Football Insider, City are open to offloading fringe players to raise funds for the move.

Despite being among Europe’s biggest spenders, financial fair play (FFP) and squad size constraints may require some outgoing transfers before the Reijnders deal is finalized.

The club is reportedly exploring options to get the deal done swiftly, possibly structuring the deal with bonuses or performance-based add-ons to reach Milan’s €80m asking price.

Is Reijnders Leaving AC Milan?

While Reijnders has not publicly agitated for a move and has spoken positively about life in Milan, the pull of the Premier League and the opportunity to play under Guardiola at one of the world’s top clubs could sway him.

Milan’s lack of European football next season — barring a late turnaround — may also weigh into his decision.
