New Inter signing Manuel Akanji says that the Nerazzurri are the ‘biggest club in Italy’ and one of the ‘best in the world.’

The Switzerland international completed an initial loan move to the San Siro from Manchester City on deadline day. He is the sixth signing of the summer period and is in line to feature against Juventus on September 13.

Akanji spent three seasons with the English Premier League giants and made 136 appearances in all competitions. The 30-year-old defender won seven trophies for the Cityzens including the 2023 Champions League.

Manuel Akanji On Inter Transfer And His Best Position

Although Inter were unable to complete a deal for Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, the Nerazzurri faithful can at least look forward to seeing Manuel Akanji in action.

The Swiss star opened up about his move to the San Siro via the club’s official YouTube channel. Akanji was quick to praise Inter after completing his loan deal.

For me, it’s the biggest club in Italy, one of the best in the world as they’ve proved over the last few years. It was easy for me to choose this club,” he explained.

Akanji also went on to say how his versatility will prove vital when asked to play in many positions across the backline.

I’m capable of playing all positions in a three-man defence,” Akanki announced.

I’ve played with Switzerland in the middle once before. I like to play in different positions, and I try my best wherever the manager sees me.”

Manuel Akanji On Playing In Serie A

Manuel Akanji is well traveled having played in Switzerland, Germany and England throughout his career to date. Now, the new Inter signing is looking forward to testing himself in Italy’s elite soccer division.

Obviously, it’s going to be different from the Premier League. The Bundesliga was already different from the Premier League,” Akanji said.

I don’t know how it is as a player, but obviously, I watch many games and I like it a lot. That’s why we found each other. I can’t wait.

Also, with the new manager, I can’t wait to meet him, know the way we are going to play, so I’m looking forward to it.”

Manuel Akanji On Inter’s Trophy Aspirations

Having lost in the 2025 Champions League final, and missing out on the Scudetto and Coppa Italia Manuel Akanji is hoping the Inter can go one better this season.

Inter is capable of going to the finals. I hope we can go to the final again and win it this time. I’ve been there before, when we played against each other three years ago, or two, so hopefully this time it can go Inter’s way, and hopefully I can be part of it as well.”
