Walter Sabatini, a prominent figure in Italian football management, has shared his candid thoughts on Inter Milan president Giuseppe Marotta in a recent interview with Corriere della Sera. Sabatini, known for his outspoken nature, provided insight into his relationship with Marotta and their differing approaches to football management.

Sabatini began by acknowledging a personal connection to Marotta, stating, “I have affection for him because when I played in Varese, he was a young boy who trained with us and he was good.” However, he quickly clarified that this fondness does not translate into professional admiration.

The veteran sporting director went on to explain the stark contrast between their management styles. “I’m not an admirer of his: I’m not like him,” Sabatini declared. He described himself as “a provocateur, quarrelsome,” highlighting his tendency to challenge the status quo.

In contrast, Sabatini characterized Marotta’s approach as more conciliatory, noting, “He always fixes everything.” This difference in handling conflicts and challenges appears to be a key point of divergence between the two executives.

Perhaps the most striking statement came when Sabatini reflected on his own career trajectory: “I have resigned about twenty times from the job I love, Marotta would never have done that.” This comment underscores Sabatini’s willingness to take drastic actions based on principle, even at the cost of his position – a trait he suggests is not shared by Marotta.
