Milan are making significant progress in their pursuit of Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana. The 25-year-old French international has reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Rossoneri, signaling his strong desire to join the Serie A giants.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fofana has accepted a five-year contract offer from Milan. The proposed deal is expected to see the midfielder’s salary increase from his current €1.1 million per year at Monaco to around €2.5 million plus bonuses at Milan.

However, while personal terms seem to be settled, negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing. Monaco’s initial asking price is reported to be around €25 million. Milan, on the other hand, are hoping to secure Fofana’s services for a lower fee, potentially around €15-20 million including bonuses.

The Rossoneri’s negotiating position is strengthened by two factors. Firstly, Fofana’s contract with Monaco expires in 2025, putting pressure on the French club to sell now rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next year. Secondly, the player himself is said to be keen on the move to Milan, potentially influencing Monaco’s stance.

Milan’s sporting director, Geoffrey Moncada, and advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been credited with convincing Fofana to choose the Italian club over other interested parties. The midfielder sees Milan as an ambitious project where he can play Champions League football and compete for trophies.

As negotiations continue, Milan remain confident of reaching an agreement with Monaco. The potential arrival of Fofana could significantly bolster their midfield options for the upcoming season under new manager Paulo Fonseca.
