AC Milan captain Davide Calabria finds himself at the center of transfer rumors as the club undergoes tactical changes under new manager Paulo Fonseca. The right-back’s future at Milan remains uncertain, with only one year left on his current contract.

Calciomercato outline how Fonseca’s tactical approach differs from his predecessor Stefano Pioli, particularly in how he utilizes full-backs. Calabria is no longer expected to play as a hybrid full-back/midfielder, returning to a more traditional defensive role. This shift comes as Milan looks to add competition at right-back, with Emerson reportedly a target.

Despite the swirling rumors, many reports have proven unfounded. Links to Strasbourg and a potential swap deal with Roma for Tammy Abraham lack substance. Calabria did receive a concrete offer from Turkish champions Galatasaray, but he chose not to consider it.

The 26-year-old remains confident in his abilities and is determined to prove himself to Fonseca, unfazed by potential competition. His priority is to stay at Milan, though disagreements over contract terms persist.

Milan’s stance on Calabria’s future has been influenced by Alessandro Florenzi’s injury, making it unlikely they will sell their captain this summer despite the risk of losing him on a free transfer next year. The club’s management plans to meet with Calabria’s representatives after the transfer window closes to discuss his situation calmly.

For now, Calabria is focused on impressing Fonseca and securing his place in the team. He views the upcoming season as an opportunity to cement his position as Milan’s first-choice right-back and potentially resolve his contract situation.
