AC Milan has been ordered to compensate Zvonimir Boban following a legal battle over his dismissal from the club. The Croatian executive had appealed to the Court of Cassation against his termination for just cause, which has now been declared “illegitimate.” As a result, Milan must pay Boban 4.825 million euros, an amount the club had already accounted for in its financial statements.

Calciomercato report how the legal journey for Boban began with a victory in the first instance, followed by an appeal that favored Milan. Initially, the former player was supposed to return 1.25 million euros to the club, but this amount will now remain with Boban.

Boban’s history with Milan is extensive. As a player, he wore the red and black jersey for nine seasons from 1992 to 2001, during which he won nine titles, including four Serie A championships, three Italian Super Cups, one Champions League, and one European Super Cup.

His tenure as a Milan executive lasted from June 2019 to March 2020, during Ivan Gazidis’s time as CEO. The initial compensation amount was set at 5.375 million euros, but it was reduced to account for income Boban earned after losing his position due to the wrongful dismissal.

Following his departure from Milan, Boban was appointed Head of Football by UEFA in April 2021. However, he resigned from this position on January 25, 2024, citing disagreements with UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin. Currently, Boban works as a television pundit for Sky.
