Milan are on the verge of securing the signature of Alvaro Morata, as the Spanish striker has reportedly agreed to join the Rossoneri. The news came directly from the newly crowned European champion captain this morning, following Spain’s victory over England in the Euro 2024 final.
Calciomercato report that Morata, who returned to Atletico Madrid in 2022, is now set to leave the Spanish club and lead Milan’s new era under Paulo Fonseca. The 31-year-old striker is expected to sign a four-year contract with an option for a fifth year, earning approximately €5.5 million per season including bonuses.
Milan will trigger Morata’s €13 million release clause, plus associated taxes, to complete the transfer. Zlatan Ibrahimovic played a crucial role in convincing the European champion to join Milan’s project.
Following the Euro 2024 final in Berlin, Ibrahimovic, along with Geoffrey Moncada and Jovan Kirovski, maintained contact with Morata and his representatives to finalize the details. The transfer process is now entering its bureaucratic and diplomatic phases, with Morata planning to speak directly with Atletico Madrid’s president Cerezo to communicate his decision.
Milan, out of courtesy, intends to inform Atletico before activating the release clause. The entire process is expected to take around 48 hours, with Wednesday potentially being the target date for Morata’s medical examinations with the Italian club.
