The Milan vs Bologna MD3 clash has been given an extra level of intrigue after the conclusion of the summer transfer window.
Not only will it be the first encounter since the 2024-25 Coppa Italia final – which the Rossoblu won – it’ll also provide the possibility for two warring plays to go toe-to-toe.
Those in question are Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe. Just three weeks ago, the two were team-mates at Marseille and seemingly happy.
However, the duo were involved in a furious bust up after OM’s shock defeat to Rennes on August 15. That resulted in both players being transfer listed.
Milan Vs Bologna Provides Possibility For Rabiot And Rowe Reunion
After their bust up, Adrien Rabiot was offered to three Serie A sides. Milan was one of those in question and opted to sign the France international on deadline day.
As for Jonathan Rowe, the English winger was signed by Bologna. And as fate would have it, the very next top-flight fixture will pit the two against each other.
Of course, it’s unknown at this stage whether both players will meet each other on the pitch. Rowe was an unused sub in the recent 1-0 victory over Como on MD2.
Rabiot – of course – could debut against the Coppa Italia winners on September 15. It’s likely both stars will start on the bench when the two sides meet at the San Siro on MD3.
Adrien Rabiot And Jonathan Rowe Bust Up
The exact details of the Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe bust up haven’t been made public knowledge. What soccer fans do know is that it wasn’t pretty and occurred in the changing room after Marseille’s Ligue 1 fixture against Rennes.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi was furious with both stars and immediately suspended them before placing them on the transfer list. OM issued a statement condemning the behavior of both players and they promptly left the club.
Milan reportedly forked out €10million for Rabiot. Bologna splashed out €19.5m for Rowe. Now, only time will tell if Max Allegri and Vincenzo Italiano will play the feuding pair against each other.
As it stands, the Rossoneri have secured three points across their two games. The same applies for the Rossoblu. Only Como separate the two clubs in the Serie A table.
One thing that is for sure, the eyes of the world be watching with extra intrigue when the game comes around.
