Milan’s Midfield Reinforcement Hunt: Frendrup and Gourna-Douath in Focus

AC Milan are exploring midfield reinforcement options for the January transfer window, with two primary targets emerging: Morten Frendrup from Genoa and Lucas Gourna-Douath from Red Bull Salzburg.

Calciomercarto report that the club’s technical staff, led by Geoffrey Moncada and Giorgio Furlani, are carefully evaluating potential midfield additions. With the expected returns of Ismael Bennacer and Ruben Loftus-Cheek by early February, and existing options like Fofana, Reijnders, Musah, and young talent Zeroli, Milan will only pursue a transfer if the opportunity is truly compelling.

Regarding Frendrup, Milan has already made concrete inquiries to Genoa. However, the club’s €25 million valuation has proven prohibitive, with both Milan and Atalanta balking at the price. The Danish midfielder will likely remain at Genoa until the summer, with increasing competition expected from both Italian and European clubs.

Lucas Gourna-Douath represents another intriguing option. Moncada, who knows the player from his Saint-Etienne days and maintains excellent relations with his agent, might attempt a move before the February 3rd deadline. However, Salzburg is known for demanding premium prices, and Milan has not received internal approval for substantial investments.

As a result, Milan is more likely to postpone significant midfield spending until the summer. At that point, they will renew their serious interest in Samuele Ricci from Torino, following recent rejection by President Urbano Cairo. Ricci remains the primary target, particularly considering list registration complexities.
