Jose Mourinho hit out at the referee following Roma’s 1- 0 loss to Inter, saying some of the bookings felt ‘targeted’. The Giallorossi were up against it for most of the match and struggled to get a foothold, ultimately losing the game through a late Marcus Thuram winner. Speaking with RomaTV post match, Mourinho made his feelings about the referee apparent, saying there was a lack of respect for his players:
“I think everyone’s feeling, and not just mine, is that the game would have ended in a draw. With all these difficulties the team was very calm. Then there seemed to be warnings for selected players: the two central defenders, Mancini and Ndicka, and the more positional midfield players, Cristante and Paredes. At the first yellow, Inter immediately replaced Pavard, whereas we can’t do it.”
“I’m sorry for the boys, they made a great effort and the goal was perfectly avoidable. I’m also sorry because there isn’t much respect for my players because the referee’s attitude immediately towards Ndicka and Mancini proves everything.”
“But I’m happy with the concept of a team that struggles despite the injuries, that braves through despite the great gift from Lega Serie A who had us play today after having played on Thursday night. That’s why I’m sad – because we deserved more. There’s not enough respect for my players.”
