Two Premier League sides have reportedly expressed an interest in Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo. The reigning Serie A champions find themselves in a precarious position in the league table under Francesco Calzona’s leadership, with a looming overhaul in the chain of command.

Amidst the arrival of Giovanni Manna from Juventus as the new sporting director, the club continues to work towards securing a new head coach, with Vincenzo Italiano emerging as the prime candidate to steer Napoli’s future. However, according to Calciomercato, amidst these developments the prospect of Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s departure is a prospect.

The Napoli stalwart, whose contract extends until 2028 following a renewal last July, is uncertain about his future at the club beyond the summer of 2024. Speculation has continued to mount regarding potential destinations, having previously been linked with AC Milan and now garnering interest from the Premier League.

Di Lorenzo has established himself as one of Serie A’s premier full-backs over the years, boasting accolades such as winning the UEFA European Championship with Italy in 2021 and clinching the Serie A title as Napoli’s captain in 2023. However, despite his contract extension, uncertainties cloud Di Lorenzo’s future. According to reports from Il Mattino, the 31-year-old full-back is seriously contemplating a departure from Napoli at the end of the season. Such a scenario might not face opposition from Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who is adamant about not retaining discontented players.

The Napoli captain’s situation has captured the attention of Premier League clubs, with Aston Villa and Manchester United having reportedly tested the waters for the versatile defender, finding receptiveness from the player to entertain any offers before making a definitive decision about his future.

The outcome of direct discussions with De Laurentiis will also play a pivotal role. Di Lorenzo intends to seek a meeting with Napoli to address various aspects and evaluate the way forward in conjunction with the club.
