Napoli coach Rudi Garcia has reportedly made Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners his number one midfield target this summer. The Dutchman had a spectacular 2022-23 season, scoring 10 goals for La Dea across all competitions, and attracting the attention of a number of clubs around Europe.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Napoli have decided to try and make a play to sign the 25-year-old, but face a challenge as Atalanta – who have recently sold Jeremie Boga and Rasmus Hojlund – do not need to make any further player sales in the transfer window. The pink paper suggest that despite La Dea being in a strong position, they may consider a sale if presented with a ‘big’ offer.
Koopmeiners has been in Napoli’s sights for years, ever since his time with Az Alkmaar, and the club are once again being linked with a move for him, especially if Piotr Zielinski were to leave.
According to the report, Napoli would be willing to spend even more than €30 million to sway Atalanta’s resistance, while the player may play a part in the talks, as he would like to play Champions League football and would be attracted by the prospect of fighting for the Scudetto.
