Patrick Vieira could be on his way out of Genoa after a winless start in Serie A and the Grifone are reportedly considering Ange Postecoglou for their next permanent manager.

Thiago Motta

One of the first names that has been thrown into the hat for Genoa’s next manager is Italian coach, Thiago Motta, who has previously held the reins in Genova.

The 43-year-old oversaw 10 games between October and December 2019, but was relieved of his duties after Genoa failed to win any of their opening eight league matches.

Motta left Genoa at the bottom of Serie A, which is where Patrick Vieira’s side currently find themselves after a miserable performance in Italy so far.

Since leaving Genoa, Motta has undertaken multiple jobs in Italy, taking charge of Spezia, Bologna and Juventus, with the latter being his most recent endeavor.

The Bianconeri parted ways with Motta towards the end of last season, as Juventus were outside of the top four and suffered an early exit in the Champions League.

As Genoa weigh up the pros and cons of sacking Patrick Vieira, the clubs’ board members will be eyeing-up a quick fix and Motta is reportedly keen on returning to management after spending seven-months away from the sport.

Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou is coming off the back of a nightmare spell with Nottingham Forest, as the Australian was relieved of his duties after just eight matches in charge.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager was looking to rebuild his reputation after receiving heavy criticism for finishing 17th in the Premier League with Spurs.

Although this league position looks poor on paper, Postecoglou did end Tottenham’s 15-year wait for a trophy after beating Manchester United in the Europa League final.

The 60-year-old has proven himself as a success in Europe during his various spells and is renowned for winning a trophy in his second season at a club.

Genoa are in desperate need of some silverware as the Grifone have not won a trophy since lifting Coppa Italia in the 1936-37 season – making Postecoglou a strong contender.

Erik ten Hag

The world of soccer can be a cruel place at times and Erik ten Hag experienced the ugliest parts of the game in his latest managerial role, as the Dutchman was sacked by Bayer Leverkusen after just three matches in charge.

Ten Hag was appointed by the Bundesliga side in July 2025 after parting ways with Manchester United and the 56-year-old was relieved of his duties by B04 in September.

Selecting the right club is a necessity for Ten Hag when looking into his next job, as the Dutchman is slowly losing his reputation in Europe.

Ten Hag established his name in Europe after a successful spell with Ajax, winning three Eredivisie titles and guiding the Dutch side to a Champions League semi-final.

The former Bayer Leverkusen boss is reportedly targeting a lower-profile job and Genoa could be the perfect place for ten Hag to reclaim the spark he displayed in the Netherlands.

Bruno Lage

Another manager that has recently parted ways with a club is Bruno Lage, as the parted ways with Benfica after spending a year in charge during his second spell.

Lage was sacked by the Portuguese side after Benfica were beaten 3-2 by Qarabag in the Champions League, despite the hosts taking a 2-0 lead early on.

Benfica’s decision to relieve Lage of his duties shocked many supporters, as the Champions League defeat was the clubs’ first defeat of the season and end a run of 10 matches without a loss.

The 49-year-old has managed in multiple leagues across the globe, taking the reins at Wolves in England and Botafogo in Brazil – meaning he would be open to a job outside of Portugal.

Bruno Lage’s relentless approach to the game and high-pressing style would be well-received by Genoa supporters, but the Grifone’s current squad would need to make some major changes.

Igor Tudor

Igor Tudor was sacked by Juventus after failing to win in eight consecutive matches and the Bianconeri are ready to appoint Luciano Spalletti.

The Croatian was handed the permanent role in Turin after an impressive stint as interim last season, as Tudor guided the Bianconeri into Champions League qualification.

Unfortunately for the 47-year-old, he was unable to replicate this form during the 2025/26 season and failed to win a single match in Europe’s elite competition.

Tudor has found success in Serie A with Lazio and Hellas Verona, meaning he may been keen on staying in Italy and helping Genoa move out of the relegation zone.
