OFFICIAL: Ajax sign Daniele Rugani on loan from Juventus

Ajax have officially announced the arrival of Daniele Rugani from Juventus on a season-long loan deal. The 30-year-old defender will join the Dutch club until June 30, 2025, providing reinforcement for new Ajax manager Francesco Farioli, who has had a challenging start to the season with a 2-1 loss to NAC Breda.

Rugani’s journey with Juventus began in 2012 when he joined their youth academy at 18. Over the years, he has accumulated significant experience, including loan spells at Empoli, Rennes, and Cagliari. During his eight seasons with Juventus, Rugani made 148 official appearances, scoring 11 goals and winning 11 trophies, including 5 Serie A titles, 4 Coppa Italia, and 2 Supercoppa Italiana.

The Italian center-back’s move to Ajax marks a new chapter in his career, offering him the opportunity to gain experience in the Eredivisie. Juventus wished Rugani well in their official statement, acknowledging his contributions to the club over the years.

While Juventus will not receive a transfer fee for this loan deal, they will benefit from saving approximately €3 million in wages that Rugani would have earned had he stayed in Turin. This move aligns with Juventus’ efforts to manage their wage bill and provides Rugani with regular playing time in a competitive league.
