Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has opted not to undergo surgery on his recent knee injury in the hopes he will return for the new Serie A season and the World Cup. The French international sustained the injury during a training session, and initial reports suggested that he would have to undergo surgery that would put him out of action until 2023.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the player, Juventus and French medical teams have elected against the surgery, opting instead for a less invasive measure.

The report states that the player will undergo a ‘conservative’ course of therapy, involving work in the gym and pool, then on the field working separately from his teammates.

The injury, a lesion to the lateral meniscus in his right knee, occurred just over a week ago and fears were that the removal of part of the meniscus would damage the stability of his knee in future and not fully resolve the issue.

Following a specialist consultation in Lyon today, the player, club and national team have together decided to avoid surgery.
