Real Sociedad Star Targets Serie A Move After La Liga Side Make Abysmal Start To 2025/26 Season

Takefusa Kubo is reportedly looking for a move away from Real Sociedad after the La Liga side’s poor start to the 2025/26 season and the Japanese international could be on his way to Serie A.

Real Sociedad have endured a difficult start to their season so far, after winning just one of their opening seven league games and sitting in the relegation zone with just five points.

Txuri-Urdin were winless from their opening five league matches, drawing to Valencia and Espanyol before suffering three consecutive defeats to Real Oviedo, Real Madrid and Real Betis.

These poor performances have left many fans questioning Sergio Francisco, as the Spaniard is taking charge of his first season after earning a promotion from the Sociedad B side.

Despite taking the role in July 2025, the Spanish coach is already in the firing line and Erik ten Hag has been linked with a move to Sociedad, despite links with a managerial job in Serie A.

Not only are supporters showing concerns over the clubs’ current situation, but some of the star players are reportedly losing faith in the manager and looking for a possible exit.

Takefusa Kubo has been a pivotal member of the Real Sociedad lineup since signing from Real Madrid in July 2022, making 144 appearances for the club.

The 24-year-old has been touted as one of the most exciting prospects in European soccer for multiple years now and Sociedad tied Kubo down until 2027 with an extended contract in February 2024.

Alongside a lengthy deal in Spain, Kubo also has a release clause of €60 million, which could deter any potential suitors from making a move in January.

Recent reports have revealed that Arsenal are preparing a January bid for the Japanese international and the Gunners are said to be considering an offer of around €40m.

This comes after the recent injury news surrounding Noni Madueke, who has been ruled out for multiple months after making a strong start to his Gunners career.

If the Premier League side do not approach Sociedad in January, then Kubo may look for an alternative option and the Japanese star has attracted interest from Serie A.

A host of Serie A sides will be on the hunt for some fresh attacking options during the January transfer window, but Kubo’s release clause may force teams into a summer approach.

One side that may be targeting some attacking firepower is Atalanta, as La Dea are still working on the relationship with Ademola Lookman after his recent transfer saga.

The Nigerian requested a move away from the club, but a move failed to materialize and Lookman is now being rumored with a new deal in Bergamo.

Ivan Juric has started to find his feet as Atalanta boss after a difficult start and the Croatian would welcome some fresh faces in January – making Kubo a strong option.

The Japanese international will be looking to join a side in one of Europe’s elite competitions and Atalanta have finished in the European places for three consecutive seasons.

Real Madrid are also involved in Kubo’s future, as Los Blancos have a 50% sell on clause, meaning the Spanish side would earn €30m if his release clause is met.
