Genoa striker Mateo Retegui says playing for the Italian national team at the EURO’s this summer would be a ‘dream’. The 24-year-old was once again on the goal sheet for the Grifone in their 2-0 win over Udinese, and speaking in the post-match with Sky Sport, he explained his hopes for the summer:
“Gilardino and the entire staff help me a lot day by day, they trust me in every game. In training, they give me a lot of advice, to act as a pivot, to try movements,” Retegui said to Sky Sport after Genoa-Udinese.
On his dream wearing the Italy shirt: “I really want to go to the National Team, but I know that first I have to do well with Genoa, play great games, be a teammate with the whole team, be a footballer. And then it will come. If Spalletti calls me for the Euros, I will be very happy because it’s a dream for me.”
Finally, Retegui spoke about his relationship with the national team coaches and his arrival in Italy: “I am very grateful both to Mancini, who called me the first time, and to Spalletti. It’s difficult to come and play here; it’s a more intense and difficult football.”
