Roma finalised two significant player transfers to Saudi Arabian clubs. English defender Chris Smalling and young Brazilian winger João Costa left the Italian capital for new adventures in the Saudi Pro League.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports how veteran center-back Chris Smalling joined Al-Fayha after five successful seasons with Roma. The 34-year-old English defender made over 150 appearances for the Giallorossi since joining in 2019, initially on loan from Manchester United before making the move permanent. Smalling’s experience and leadership were crucial for Roma’s backline during his tenure.
In a separate deal, Roma agreed to sell promising young winger João Costa to Al-Ettifaq for a reported fee of €9 million. The 19-year-old Brazilian, who primarily featured for Roma’s youth teams, is set to continue his development in the Saudi Pro League. Despite his potential, Costa found first-team opportunities limited at Roma.
These transfers mark significant changes for Roma as they reshape their squad under new management.
