Roma remain determined to strengthen their frontline before the new Serie A season begins, but complications continue to slow progress on two of their top targets.
Manager Gian Piero Gasperini has been vocal about the need for more firepower, especially if the Giallorossi are to replicate Atalanta’s pace-driven attacking model.
Yet despite making headway on several fronts, Roma are still chasing a couple of deals.
Roma Transfer News: Claudio Echeverri, Fabio Silva Deals Stalling
According to Sky Sports’ Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma are in advanced talks to sign Claudio Echeverri from Manchester City.
The young Argentine, viewed as a long-term creative outlet, is open to the move – but City are only willing to send him on a straight loan. Roma, however, is pushing for a loan with an option to buy.
There is room for compromise, it seems. Roma may offer a buyback clause to satisfy City’s desire to maintain some control over the player’s future, according to Corriere dello Sport. Still, no agreement has been reached.
Meanwhile, Fabio Silva remains another key name on the list. Roma approached Wolves with a loan proposal, but the Premier League club rejected it, insisting on a permanent transfer.
Wolves want around €25 million for Silva – a price tag currently too high for Roma’s summer budget.
There is also growing pressure internally to act quickly. Gian Piero Gasperini has already warned Roma’s board that the squad is “stretched thin”, particularly in key attacking roles, and highlighted how a lack of depth could hurt their chances across a busy season.
Serie A Transfer News: Santiago Pierotti to Roma?
One of the more attainable names might well be Santiago Pierotti of Lecce. The Argentine winger has already impressed in Serie A since joining last year – although perhaps isn’t the most prolific in terms of production (4 goals and 4 assists across 47 appearances).
However, Gasperini clearly sees something in the player, and given his versatility and the fact he is already familiar with the league, Pierotti could provide the speed and directness his manager wants on the flanks.
Besides, a deal for Pierotti would come without the complications of negotiating with Premier League giants or top European clubs, and they should be able to agree a low fee comparatively.
Meanwhile, Shakhtar Donetsk forward Eguinaldo and RB Salzburg’s Dorgeles Nene are also on the shortlist.
The Brazilian duo offer versatile options: Eguinaldo is valued around €15 million, while Nene enjoyed an outstanding 2024/25 season in Austria, notching 13 goals and 8 assists in 30 games.
Either way, although Roma’s attacking depth isn’t exactly lacking on paper, the squad lacks the kind of explosive wide-forward Gasperini tends to thrive with.
Roma, who are currently slight outsiders for a top four place with US betting sites, have been working within budgetary limitations, preferring smart deals over splashy buys. That likely won’t change, unless a key player is sold to free up funds.
But time is ticking, and fans will be watching closely to see whether Echeverri, Silva, or a new name arrives to bolster the Giallorossi’s front line.
