Roma may be heading back to Brighton in the transfer market – this time for highly rated attacking midfielder Julio Enciso.
According to Il Messaggero, the Giallorossi are exploring a potential deal for the 21-year-old Paraguayan, who recently returned to the Seagulls after a loan spell at Ipswich Town.
Enciso is under contract until 2026, but Roma hopes Brighton will be flexible on their €20 million valuation.
Given the player’s limited role in England and the club’s willingness to listen to offers, Roma sees a window to strike.
Roma Transfer News: Enciso and Echeverri Targeted
As well as Enciso, Roma are in advanced talks to sign Manchester City’s Claudio Echeverri, who is a highly rated Argentine talent.
Despite interest from City’s sister club, Girona, Roma are pushing for a permanent deal and are hoping to include a buy-out clause.
Manager Gian Piero Gasperini is said to view Echeverri as a priority, seeing him as the kind of player who can operate both centrally and in wide roles.
Roma’s interest dates back several months, and sources suggest the player himself would prefer a move to Italy to accelerate his development.
Whether Enciso is a backup alternative to Echeverri or whether the club intends to sign both remains to be seen.
Why Roma Are Targeting Premier League Talent
Roma’s transfer strategy this summer has centered around younger, versatile players capable of contributing immediately but with high resale potential.
Enciso fits that mold perfectly. He’s shown flashes of elite creativity and pace when given minutes and remains one of the more intriguing young South American exports in Europe.
Echeverri, similarly, has been tagged as a generational talent in Argentina, and while his game time at City has been virtually nonexistent, his skill set isn’t in doubt.
Roma’s intent to pull in at least one of these two names, if not both, is seen as a response to concerns about squad depth and the club’s limited attacking output in the second half of last season.
The Giallorossi remain slight 11/8 outsiders to make the top four next season, according to US sportsbooks, with Gasperini under pressure to deliver immediate results.
Roma Transfer Budget
Although Roma have been active in the market – recently securing Daniele Ghilardi from Hellas Verona and signing the likes of Evan Ferguson and Neil El Aynaoui – they are still operating under strict financial parameters.
That makes the reported €20 million asking price for Enciso a sticking point.
It’s understood that Roma will push for a lower fee, banking on the fact that Brighton may not have a long-term role in mind for the Paraguayan international.
The situation could change, of course, but sources in Italy suggest a deal under €15 million could be achievable with add-ons.
Should Enciso arrive, he’d add depth and flair to the flanks, offering an option different from the more traditional wide players currently on Roma’s books.
His signing could also open up different options for Gasperini, who wants more mobile players that can interchange in attacking roles.
