Gian Piero Gasperini has urged Paulo Dybala to add more variety to his game, as the Argentinian continues to be linked with a move this summer.
Will Paulo Dybala Leave Roma?
The Argentine seems to be linked with a transfer every summer, despite only completing three moves during his career and Dybala’s future in Rome has been tainted with questions.
Since joining the Giallorossi in July 2022, the 31-year-old has made 115 appearances and contributed to 64 (42G + 22A) – failing to win any silverware along the way.
His future in the Italian capital was initially thrown up in the air after Gian Piero Gasperini took the reins, coming in from Atalanta after almost a decade in Bergam.
The veteran manager was quick to bring in some fresh additions, as Wesley Franca, Neil El Aynaoui, Jan Ziolkowski, Leon Bailey, Evan Ferguson, Daniele Ghilardi, Devis Vásquez, Radoslaw Zelezny and Konstantinos Tsimikas all joined the Giallorossi.
Making such a huge overhaul to the squad put the current roster on notice and Gasperini may look into some last-minute additions after Roma found their Europa League group stage opponents.
Gasperini’s side will take on Lille, Viktoria Plzen, Midtjylland, Stuttgart, Rangers, Celtic, Nice and Panathinaikos, with hopes of going a step further than they managed in 2022/23 – losing via penalties against Frankfurt.
Competing in Europe will be a difficult task for Roma and Gasperini will be hoping to keep a hold of his best players, which includes Paulo Dybala after the Argentinian featured in both of the clubs’ opening Serie A matches despite rumors of a move away.
According to reports, Dybala has attracted interest from multiple clubs around Europe, with Benfica leading the way, however, Gasperini has put a statement of intent down in hopes of keeping the Argentine.
What Did Gian Piero Gasperini Say About Paulo Dybala?
The former Palermo player has been struggling with a tendon injury that kept him out for the majority of pre-season and Dybala has only just started to make a return to Roma’s squad.
Coming off the bench in both Serie A matches, Dybala has managed to make an immediate impact, playing a part in Roma’s winning goal against Pisa on MD2.
Gasperini’s side have managed to win both of their opening league matches, despite summer signing Leon Bailey suffering an injury during his first training session in Rome.
The Jamaican’s injury could play a part in Dybala’s future, as Gasperini does not want to lose another key option in attack and the Roma boss has recently commented on his demands for Dybala this season.
Gasperini said: “Paulo can play anywhere, on the left, as a number 10, or as a central striker. Of course, he cannot drift into the center and shoot with his left foot.
“But I do not think a player should be limited to his comfort zone – he can move into any attacking zone. I want the same from Sule. They should not work only with their favorite foot, they need this variety.”
