There was another chapter in the fate of the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, as a meeting was held between Inter, Milan and Mayor Giuseppe Sala at Palazzo Marino this morning. The meeting, organised by Sala to discuss the proposed renovation of San Siro, relaunched a few days ago by Webuild, was very brief and lasted just 35 minutes.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that both clubs were called to the meeting and were represented by Milan president Paolo Scaroni and Inter’s Corporate CEO Alessandro Antonello. The two executives left quickly without making any statements.
After last year’s setbacks and the derailing of the stadium demolition project in light of the constraints imposed by the Superintendency, both clubs have turned to options outside the city limits with a view to building their own new stadiums: Milan have already purchased the identified land in San Donato Milanese for €40 million, while Inter have entered into a preemptive agreement for an area in Rozzano not far from the Assago Forum – owned by the Cabassi family – which will expire on April 30.
Ahead of today’s meeting, both clubs reported were perplexed by Mayor Sala’s proposals.
