After receiving a suspension from the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) last October, Sandro Tonali has now been suspended by the FA for two months with conditions. The former Milan midfielder referred himself to the FA earlier this year for alleged breaches of betting rules. The 23-year-old Italian is alleged to have bet on matches between August 12, 2023, and October 12, 2023, marking a concerning development in his career.

A statement from the FA confirmed that the midfielder will be suspended for two months

“The midfielder Sandro Tonali has been suspended for two months from competitive football by an independent regulatory commission after self-declaring violations of the FA’s betting rules. He has also been fined £20,000 and warned by the FA regarding his future conduct. The suspension period is fully suspended for the duration of the 2024/25 season, meaning he will be available to return to competitive football at the end of the ten-month sanction imposed by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) on October 27, 2023. Provided he does not commit further violations of the FA Betting Rules during the suspension period, Sandro will not serve any part of the two-month sanction. As acknowledged by the FA in the written reasons of the independent regulatory commission, the level of assistance provided by Sandro in self-reporting and fully cooperating with a subsequent investigation is extraordinary and unprecedented. Sandro has fully admitted his betting activity, and he did so in circumstances where there was no other evidence to support misconduct proceedings. Sandro continues to follow a therapeutic plan and an educational program with the full support of the Club and will continue to train with his teammates.”
