The Italian forward began by praising his current manager, Gian Piero Gasperini: “Gasperini is a top coach for me, undoubtedly the best I’ve ever had. Working with him is intense; he teaches you day after day. You have to keep up with him; he’s a professor of football.”
Regarding his return from injury, Scamacca provided an optimistic update: “We’re four and a half months into the injury recovery. When we reach six months, there’s no set day; it’s based on feeling. We need to test and see, but I can only say that it won’t be long now.”
When asked about Atalanta’s chances of maintaining their high position in the league table, Scamacca remained cautious: “I’m not superstitious. It’s a long season, there’s still a lot to go. For now, we’re up there, but we think game by game, and we’ll sum it up at the end.” He also addressed the topic of a potential Scudetto challenge, stating, “No, we don’t mention it in the locker room because it’s too premature. It’s right to keep our feet on the ground.”
Scamacca also commented on Atalanta’s signing of Mateo Retegui, praising the club’s foresight: “Atalanta was very strong and well-prepared to fill a gap; they were ready. They made a great choice, signing the strongest and most promising striker available on the market.”
Looking ahead to his return, Scamacca expressed enthusiasm about potentially playing alongside Retegui: “Of course we can play together, we’ve done it with the national team. Then it will be up to the coach to decide.”
