The Scotsman netted his 10th and 11th goals of the campaign in Gil Azzurri’s recent 2-0 victory against Torino, ensuring they capitalised on Inter Milan’s defeat at the hands of Roma to establish a three-point lead at the summit.
Since netting on his home debut back in September, the former Manchester United man has been integral to Napoli’s bid for a fourth Serie A title. The timing of his goals have been at the centre of his importance, opening the scoring on seven occasions, which has earned him the affectionate nickname of Apribottiglie — or the ‘bottle opener’ — amongst Napoli fans.
The Partenopei are a creative bunch, often conjuring up creative monikers for their eternal heroes, but McTominay says he actually prefers another nickname over the ‘bottle opener.’
If he hadn’t already captured the hearts of Napoli fans, McTominay almost certainly confirmed his cult hero status with a stirring post-match interview on Sunday.
Speaking to DAZN, an interview asked him which nickname was his favourite: “MacGyver, McTerminator, McFratm, or Apribottiglie, because you always score the first goal?”
A gleaming smile painted across his face, McTominay replied: “Pasquale Mazzocchi [his teammate] would say McFratm.”

Not only does this reference a local meme about someone mispronouncing McFlurry at a drive-through, but McTominay understanding the interviewer and joking with Mazzocchi — a Naples boy, born and bred — is an example his effortless assimilation into the culture.
What Does McTominay’s ‘McFratm’ Nickname Mean?
Scott McTominay’s preferred nickname — ‘McFratm’ — is in reference to ‘Fratm’ which is a Neapolitan slang dialect for ‘bro’. It can effectively be translated directly as ‘McBro.’
McTominay mania has swept through city, with local pizzerias naming new inventions after the Scotsman, and one fan even getting fresh ink with the ‘McFratm’ nickname bylined.
That is some commitment given the Serie A title race is still open to twists and turns, but such is McTominay’s popularity that his permanency in Naples feels inevitable.
