LaLiga Giants Ready To Swoop For David De Gea As Fiorentina Unhappy With Spaniard’s Performances
David De Gea could be heading back to Spain in 2026 after a run of poor performances in Serie A.
Fiorentina are willing to part ways with David De Gea after his poor display this season and the Spaniard has attracted interest from LaLiga.
Fiorentina Unhappy With David De Gea Performances
La Viola suffered their ninth Serie A defeat of the season on December 14th, as Paolo Vanoli’s side were beaten 2-1 by Hellas Verona and continued their winless start.
Paolo Vanoli’s side sit bottom of the table and a lot of criticism has been diverted towards Spanish shot-stopper David De Gea, as the veteran continues to struggle in Italy.
The 35-year-old’s poor positioning allowed Gift Orban to open the scoring for Verona and the Nigerian would go on to score another in the 93rd minute to secure all-three points for the visitors.
Following this performance Verona have suffered a transfer dilemma, as Orban is available for just in the summer and has attracted interest from across Europe.
The Nigerian took full advantage of De Gea’s mistake and this added to a list of errors that the Spaniard has made during the 2025/26 campaign.
Fiorentina have suffered due to the 35-year-old’s errors, with De Gea making costly mistakes against Cagliari, Genoa, AC Milan, and Sassuolo.
This streak of mishaps have left Fiorentina questioning De Gea’s position in the starting lineup and Vanoli may be looking for a new shot-stopper in January.
De Gea’s deal in Florence does not expire until June 2028, but the former Manchester United star has still attracted interest from LaLiga.
LaLiga Giants Consider David De Gea Move
Fiorentina are not the only side with issues in the goalkeeping department, as AC Milan continue to battle with Mike Maignan over salary disputes.
Moving back to Spain would be a big deal for the Fiorentina shot-stopper, as he has not competed in a competitive LaLiga game since May 2011, spending the majority of his career in England with Manchester United.
However, De Gea could make a long-awaited return to his home nation in 2026 as Valencia are reportedly interested in signing the Fiorentina star.
Valencia currently sit 17th in LaLiga, avoiding a place in the relegation zone by goal difference and the goalkeeping responsibility has fallen on the shoulders of 24-year-old, Jule Agirrezabala.
Carlos Corberan is said to be looking for a more experienced option to help ease the load on Agirrezabala’s shoulders and this would allow De Gea to take a more relaxed position as he enters the latter stages of his career.
The 35-year-old would need to take a substantial pay-cut if he were to join the LaLiga side, as De Gea is currently earning around €108,000 per week – which is more than any Valencia player.
