Raspadori’s future with Atletico Madrid has taken another hit after the 25-year-old saw just 18-minutes of action during the Colchoneros’ 1-0 defeat by Athletic Club on December 6th.

The Azzurri international has failed to make his mark in the Spanish capital since joining Atletico in August, making just one start in LaLiga and sitting on the bench for the last three Champions League outings.

Diego Simeone signed Raspadori for around €22million during the summer window, after the Italian provided seven goals contributions for Napoli in the Partenopei’s run to the Scudetto last season.

However, the Atletico Madrid boss has preferred to utilize the likes of Julian Alvarez, Antoine Griezmann and Alexander Sorloth – pushing Raspadori further down the pecking order.

Accumulating just 309 minutes across all competitions has left Raspadori in a difficult position, as the Italian is already looking for a move away from Spain – despite spending just over three months with Atletico.

Moving back to Serie A would be the most suitable deal for the 25-year-old and Roma have held talks with Raspadori over a possible switch in January.

The Giallorossi are on the hunt for an attacking reinforcement after scoring just 15 league goals in 14 matches and Gian Piero Gasperini is a huge admirer of the former Napoli star.

Another factor that will play a vital part in Raspadori’s decision is his involvement with the Italian national team, as this lack of playing time could see the 25-year-old drop out of Gennaro Gattuso’s squad.

Raspadori World Cup Hopes At Risk

Giacomo Raspadori has been an ever-present member of the Azzurri roster in recent years, picking up 45 caps and finding the back of the net on 11 occasions.

Since Gattuso took the reins from Luciano Spalletti, Raspadori has been involved in every camp under the new head coach – but was an unused substitute during the Azzurri’s latest outing against Norway.

The Atletico Madrid star’s lack of playing time comes at an unfortunate time as the 2026 World Cup is right around the corner and the Azzurri face Northern Ireland in the opening playoff round on March 26th.

Raspadori is not the only Italian to be facing struggles away from Serie A, as Guglielmo Vicario has faced huge scrutiny in England after multiple mistakes.

The Tottenham goalkeeper is now looking to make a return to Italy and Vicario has contacted Serie A giants, Inter, over a possible agreement in January – something that Raspadori may also consider.

Moving back to Italy would be a major boost to Raspadori’s chances of featuring at the 2026 World Cup, however, Atletico are only willing to let the Italian go if a suitable replacement is found.
