Ruben Amorim could start a new managerial venture in Serie A, as pressure continues to grow on the Manchester United boss.

The Manchester United manager has endured a terrible time in England since taking the reins in November 2024 and supporters are starting to push for a new man to take charge at Old Trafford.

Criticism towards Amorim increased after United were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City on September 14th, putting in a disappointing performance on derby day.

United have picked up one win, one draw and two losses from their opening four Premier League matches, while also suffering a humilaitign Carabao Cup exit to League Two side, Grimsby.

Amorim’s record at Manchester United makes for grim viewing if you’re a Red Devils fan, as the 40-year-old has been in charge of 47 matches and won only 18 – losing on 20 occasions.

Fans were optimistic after Amorim took the reins from Erik ten Hag, with the Dutchman now being linked with a job in Serie A, but despite bringing in Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha – things have not improved at Old Trafford.

In fact, Manchester United currently sit bottom of the ‘ever-present’ Premier League table since Ruben Amorim came in and the Portuguese coach has been criticised for failing to adapt.

The former Sporting Lisbon coach is known for a 3-4-3 system, which was extremely effective in Portugal as he won two Liga Portugal titles between 2020-2024.

This style has not translated into the Premier League and has ostracized a player that is beloved at Old Trafford in Kobbie Mainoo, as the Englishman is yet to make a start in the league this season.

Amorim’s days in England appear to be numbered and the 40-year-old may consider a switch outside of England – with Italy being a leading option.

Could Ruben Amorim Manage In Serie A?

Ruben Amorim will still have a host of suitors despite his problems in Manchester, as the 40-year-old grew a strong reputation during his time with Sporting Lisbon.

Multiple managers have left Old Trafford with a hindered reputation, with the likes of Erik ten Hag, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho all struggling in Manchester.

Interestingly, Mourinho has recently parted ways with Fenerbahce and the 62-year-old could make a return to Serie A, previously working at Inter and Roma.

Ruben Amorim has a close relationship with Mourinho, which could play a part in his future if he decides to leave Old Trafford or is relieved of his duties.

A host of Serie A sides brought in fresh faces to take the managerial reins, with Inter, AC Milan, Roma and Juventus all appointing new mangers for the 2025/26 season.

This does limit the options available to Amorim, however, there is one Italian side that may be on the hunt for a new manager in the near future.

Lazio have made a poor start to their Serie A league campaign, picking up just three-points from three matches and losing to Sassuolo most recently.

Maurizio Sarri was linked with a move away in the summer as Lazio were handed a transfer embargo until January and if results do not improve the relationship could come to a sour end.

The veteran coach is reportedly under contract until June 2027, meaning the 66-year-old would need a significant pay-out if Lazio decide to part ways with Sarri beforehand.
