Atalanta Make Decision Over Yunus Musah Future As USMNT Star Considers MLS Switch

Atalanta will not sign Yunus Musah on a permanent deal at the end of this season and the USMNT star is already considering a move to MLS.
Atalanta Make Decision Over Yunus Musah Future
Yunus Musah’s time with Atalanta is not set to extend past the 2025/26 campaign, as La Dea have reportedly decided against the idea of signing the USMNT star on a permanent basis.
The 23-year-old joined Atalanta on loan from AC Milan during the 2025 summer transfer window and has failed to cement his place in the starting eleven.
Musah has made 18 appearances for Atalanta across all competitions this season, but only featured in the starting lineup on three occasions (two in Serie A and one in the Champions League).
Ivan Juric was the man in charge when Musah completed his move to Bergamo, but the Croatian coach was made surplus to requirements in November – as Raffaele Palladino took the reins.
The new Atalanta manager has handed Musah his two starts in Serie A and the USMNT star was not utilized during Atalanta’s 3-2 defeat by Athletic Club in the UCL on January 21st.
Palladino has preferred the likes of Ederson and Marten De Roon, with the latter questioning his teammates’ maturity during the European defeat by Athletic Club.
Musah’s loan move to Atalanta included a €25-€30million buy-option and La Dea are unwilling to activate this clause during the summer window.
The 23-year-old is reportedly looking to end his spell in Bergamo during the January window, but Musah would have to return to AC Milan – where a starting place is even less likely.
FIFA regulations mean players cannot play for three clubs and Musah has already played competitively for Atalanta and Milan this season.
This means any move will have to wait until the summer and Musah is considering a possible venture into MLS after the European campaign comes to an end.
MLS Side Monitor Yunus Musah Situation
Despite making 47 appearances for the United States, Musah has never played in the nation’s top league and the 23-year-old is considering a move to MLS.
The USMNT midfielder was born in New York City while his parents were on holiday before moving to Italy and then joining Arsenal’s academy at nine-years-old.
Musah would eventually join the Valencia youth set-up and go on to make 108 appearances for the LaLiga side, before joining AC Milan in August 2023.
The Rossoneri could give Musah another chance as Milan need midfield reinforcements, but Musah’s position would be far from guaranteed.
His entire soccer career has been European-based and this could come to an end in 2026, as New York City FC prepare a move for the 23-year-old.
Pascal Jensen’s side made it to the MLS Playoff semi-finals last season, suffering a 5-1 defeat by eventual winners Inter Miami on November 29th.
The MLS side are looking for multiple midfield additions ahead of this upcoming season, but are also setting plans in place for the summer where North American clubs can sign players from Europe between July 13th to September 2nd.
