Juventus Push For Manchester City Star As German International Drops Down Pecking Order Under Pep Guardiola

Juventus are reportedly preparing a last-minute move for Ilkay Gundogan as the German is yet to make a Premier League appearance this season.

The German international could be on his way out of Manchester after rejoining the Cityzens in August 2024 as a free agent, following a lack of playing time this year.

After originally signing for Pep Guardiola’s side in July 2017, the now 34-year-old became a club legend winning five Premier League titles, four Carabao Cups, two FA Cups and the Champions League.

Gundogan was captain during City’s infamous treble-winning campaign, scoring vital goals in the FA Cup final and Premier League title run in – before leaving joining Barcelona as a free agent in July 2023.

His time in Spain did not go according to plan despite contributing to 19 goals in 51 appearances and the German international decided to return to Manchester for the 2024/25 season.

However, Gundogan’s rank in the Manchester City squad is not what it was and the 34-year-old has not picked up a single minute in City’s opening three Premier League matches this season.

Guardiola appears to prefer summer signing, Tijjani Reijnders and according to reports, Gundogan may be looking for a move elsewhere before the window comes to an end.

The German also has one-year remaining on his current deal meaning City may be keen on cashing in before he becomes available as a free agent next summer.

Juventus, who have been involved with a huge transfer saga this summer as Dusan Vlahovic continues to attract interest from Newcastle, are reportedly interested in signing Gundogan.

Igor Tudor has got off to a flying start in the Serie A season and is looking for some final tweaks before the summer transfer window comes to a close.

Are Juventus Interested In Ilkay Gundogan?

Juventus have kicked off their league season superbly, winning both of their opening matches and keeping a clean sheet each time.

The Bianconeri secured a 2-0 victory over Parma on the opening weekend, before Vlahovic scored a late-winner to earn all three-points against Genoa away from home.

Tudor has been extremely impressed with his side so far, highlighting how impressive the back-line has been in both matches so far.

The Juventus manager said (Via Juventus Official Website): “We needed a performance like this because when you come to play in Genoa, you have to sweat from the start until you leave the pitch with a win.

“I’m also very satisfied with the two matches without conceding any goals, which means that defensively, we’ve played two excellent.”

Juve have also seen their Champions League fixtures be announced in recent days, being one of the Serie A teams with the hardest UCL draw as they prepare to take on Borussia Dortmund, Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, Pafos, Real Madrid, Villarreal, Bodo/Glimt and Monaco.

This will push the club into adding more star names to their roster and Gundogan has now entered this list as Tudor prioritizes the midfield set-up.

At this current moment in time there has not been an official bid for the German international but the Cityzens may be willing to accept a deal in the region of $10 million.
