Atalanta Prepare Move For Atletico Madrid Star Despite Interest From Premier League Sides

Atalanta are reportedly interested in Atletico Madrid star, Conor Gallagher, who has recently been linked with a return to Premier League side, Crystal Palace.

Is Conor Gallagher Leaving Atletico Madrid?

The English international has caught the headlines in recent days, after being linked with a surprise move away from Atletico Madrid this summer.

Gallagher made his move to the Spanish capital in August 2024, making 50 appearances across all competitions in his debut season and contributing to 10 goals along the way (4G + 6A).

However, the former Chelsea midfielder was substituted at half-time in Atletico’s opening day defeat to Espanyol and came on after 68 minutes against Elche in the following match.

According to reports, Simeone would be willing to offload Gallagher for a suitable price and the midfielder has already attracted interest from Crystal Palace and Everton.

Gallagher is not the only English midfielder to be linked with a in the final days of this summer window, as Kobbie Mainoo has been linked with a move to Inter Milan.

The Manchester United youngster has fallen out-of-favor under Ruben Amorim, alerting the Serie A side and Gallagher is also being monitored by an Italian giant in Atalanta.

Ivan Juric has dealt with two major losses during the summer window, losing Mateo Retegui to Saudi Arabia and Ademola Lookman who continues to push for a move after a public fall-out with the club.

Brazilian midfielder, Ederson, has also been the topic of some transfer rumors this summer and Juric may be looking for a suitable replacement like Gallagher.

The Atletico Madrid midfielder has four-years remaining on his current deal and the Spanish side will only consider bids in the $45-50m region after signing the Brit for $44m last summer.

Are Atalanta Interested In Conor Gallagher?

The 2024 Europa League champions made a disappointing start to the Serie A season on matchday one, being held to a 1-1 draw by newly promoted side Pisa at home.

One positive came through Gianluca Scamacca who managed to score the equaliser following Isak Hien’s own goal and was the Italian’s first Serie A goal in 455-days.

Failing to beat Pisa highlighted how La Dea need to strengthen in the final days of the window, which is something Juric is keen to address before August 31st.

Atalanta are reportedly interested in West Ham star, Lucas Paqueta, as the Brazilian is unhappy in east London and is considering a switch before the deadline.

It’s unlikely that the Bergamo-based side will be able to sign Paqueta and Gallagher this summer, with the midfield duo costing over $80 million combined.

However, given Juric’s style and need for high energy across the pitch, a move for the Englishman appears to be the favored option at this moment in time.

There has been no official contact between Atletico Madrid and Atalanta yet, but talks will need to commence quickly as there are just three-days of this summer window remaining.
