Fiorentina and Bologna are set to battle it out for Bosnian striker, Edin Dzeko, as the former Inter star looks to make a Serie A return.
Will Fiorentina Sign Edin Dzeko?
After finishing sixth in Serie A, Fiorentina are now on the hunt for some fresh faces as they prepare for a 2025/26 campaign that will include European soccer once again.
Star striker, Moise Kean, ended the season with 19 league goals in 32 appearances and is now being linked with a move away from the club – attracting interest from Manchester United.
If the 25-year-old does decided to move on to pastures new, then Fiorentina are reportedly looking into the possibility of signing former Inter and Roma striker, Edin Dzeko.
The Bosnian international made 268 Serie A appearances during his two spells in Italy, contributing to 157 goals in the process, scoring 107 and assisting a further 50.
Now, at 39-years-old the veteran striker is nearing the end of his time as a professional soccer player and is on the verge of completing one of the final transfers of his career.
Signing a player that is pushing 40-years-of-age is an interesting thought for Fiorentina, especially after the best betting sites priced them as a huge outside to win the title next season.
Despite his age, Dzeko has shown no signs of slowing down and is currently the leading number nine at Fenerbahce – scoring 21 goals for the Turkish side last season.
His deal in Turkey is set to expire at the end of June and Fenerbahce are unlikely to offer the 39-year-old a new deal meaning he will become available as a free agent.
As previously mentioned, Moise Kean has been linked with a move away, however, Dzeko is currently being targeted as a back-up option behind the Italian.
Are Bologna Interested In Dzeko?
Bologna have already been involved in a big transfer saga this summer, as the Italian side have set an asking price for star defender Sam Beukema amid interest from Napoli.
If they agree to sell their Dutch defender then Bologna will be looking to reinvest their money this summer and become active in deals across the window.
This has been supported by recent reports as the Serie A side are reportedly prepared to enter the race for Dzeko this summer and acquire the Bosnian as a free agent.
Despite finishing ninth in the league, Bologna will compete in the Europa League next season after beating AC Milan in the Coppa Italia final back in May.
Bologna’s current striker is 20-year-old Santiago Castro, who scored eight goals in 36 Serie A matches and could gain some valuable experience from the former Inter star.
