Juventus, AC Milan and Inter are all in the running to sign Tottenham defender, Cristian Romero, despite heavy interest from Atletico Madrid.
Will Cristian Romero Leave Tottenham?
A lot has been made over Cristian Romero’s future in North London during this summer transfer window, as the Argentinian appeared to be committing his future to the club if Ange Postecoglou kept his place as manager.
However, despite winning Spurs’ first piece of silverware since 2008 by beating Manchester United in the Europa League final, the Australian was relieved of his duties following a 17th-placed finish in the Premier League.
Thomas Frank was brought in as the man to change Spurs’ fortunes next season and has already brought in Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, while also nearing a deal for Morgan Gibbs-White.
Now, Frank’s appointment does not mean that Romero will be leaving the club for certain, but it may play a small factor due to the defender’s appreciation for Postecoglou.
Atletico Madrid have been heavily linked with the Argentine, being priced as favorites on the best betting apps, however, the Spanish side have not submitted a formal bid.
Any serious move for the Spurs defender will need to be in the $70m region, as Romero has cemented himself as one of the best defenders in Europe and has two-years remaining on his deal.
Another possibility that has caught some traction is a possible return to Italy, with Juventus, AC Milan and Inter all in the running to sign Romero this summer.
Are Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Keen On Cristian Romero?
The Tottenham defender has already shown his quality on Italian soil, being on the books for Genoa, Juventus and Atalanta, but never making an appearance for Juve.
During his time in Italy, Romero made 88 Serie A appearances, enjoying his most popular spell with Atalanta before making a $55 million move to Spurs in 2022.
Juve have already strengthened in the centre-back department, signing Pierre Kalulu and Lloyd Kelly on permanent basis after successful loan spells last season.
Igor Tudor will set up with a back-three in the 2025/26 season, meaning multiple options in defense will be needed and Romero may return to Turin.
However, the two sides in Milan may look to push their way to the front of the queue and the Rossoneri will be guided by Massimilaino Allegri during this summer window.
The veteran manager has added the likes of Luka Modric and Samuele Ricci to his roster, while still dealing with the possible exit of Rafael Leao.
Similarly, Inter will enter next season with a new man in charge following Cristian Chivu’s appointment and Romero is reportedly well-regarded by the Nerazzurri boss.
None of these Italian sides have been in contact with Tottenham over a deal for Romero at this moment in time, however, there could be movement in this saga in the coming days.
