Serie A icon, Luca Toni, has pleaded with Juventus to sign Italian Premier League duo Sandro Tonali and Federico Chiesa this summer.
What Did Luca Toni Say About Juventus Signing Chiesa and Tonali?
The former Serie A star is one of the most iconic names in Italian soccer, after a career that spanned across two decades – accumulating 344 appearances in Italy’s top division.
Contributing to 204 goals during these matches (157G + 46A), Toni donned the jersey of multiple sides across the country, playing for Juventus, Roma, Fiorentina, Genoa, Palermo and Hellas Verona.
His most impressive feat may be winning the Serie A Golden Boot in 2005/06 (as well as Europe’s Golden Boot) and then finishing as the league’s highest scorer again almost a decade later in 2014/15.
Despite his record in front of goal, Toni’s Scudetto tally is up for debate as although he started the 2011/12 season with Juventus, who went on to win the title that season, he made just one appearance before leaving in January.
But, despite his limited time with the Old Lady, the 48-year-old has recently spoke on his thoughts over their approach this summer and how Juve should sign Sandro Tonali and Federico Chiesa.
A bombshell was recently dropped on Chiesa’s future at Liverpool, as Arne Slot decided to leave the Italian out of the Reds’ pre-season squad – pushing Toni to the idea that Juve should sign their former star.
Toni said: “Juventus must step up their game if they want to get close to the top teams and get back into the Scudetto race. I’d try to sign Tonali forever: he’s expensive, but he’s someone who can change your midfield.
“If I were Juventus, I’d bring Chiesa back on loan. He’s out of the Liverpool project, so I’d bet on his desire to redeem himself.
“The departures of some key players are slowing down the Bianconeri’s transfer window, but if you let Vlahovic go, you need two or three big signings.
“Right now, there’s a long way to go between Juventus and the Napoli-Inter duo. And Massimiliano Allegri’s Milan, lacking the European competition, will be able to focus solely on the league.
“Sometimes it’s an advantage to have just one fixture, even if European fixtures bring excitement. The Bianconeri are missing something, but I’m confident they’ll make the right move, and Tudor will ultimately be competitive.”
Will Juventus Win 2025/26 Serie A Title?
The Turin-based side hold the record for the most Serie A titles in history, winning the Scudetto 36 times, but Juventus have not won the league title since 2020.
In fact, the 2019/20 season saw the Old Lady win their ninth-consecutive league title, asserting a period of dominance between 2012 and 2020 under Massimiliano Allegri.
This control of Italy’s top division has dwindled in recent years due to a host of financial difficulties, points deductions and consistent change in managers.
Igor Tudor has been handed the task of reclaiming Juventus throne at the top of Italian soccer, as the Croatian looks to win the Scudetto and stop Napoli from retaining their title.
Juve finished fourth in the league last season after Tudor steadied the ship that Thiago Motta had left behind and the 36-time champions are now one of the favorites to win the league on Serie A betting sites.
So far, the Old Lady have signed Nico Gonzalez, Lloyd Kelly, Pierre Kalulu, Michele Di Gregorio, Jonathan David, Francisco Conceicao and Joao Mario – strengthening their squad greatly and leaving Tudor with a huge chance of silverware next season.
