Federico Chiesa could be on his way back to Serie A after just one season away from Italy, as Arne Slot left the Italian out of Liverpool’s pre-season squad.
Why Is Federico Chiesa Leaving Liverpool?
The Italian international ended his time in Serie A during the 2024 summer transfer window, being the only signing made by Arne Slot in his debut season at the club.
Chiesa ended his four-years with Juventus for around $15 million, making 131 appearances for the Old Lady and contributing to 55 goals in the process (32G + 23A).
However, his time in the Premier League did not go according to plan, as despite winning the league title with Liverpool, Chiesa only made 14 appearances across all competitions – accumulating 466 minutes.
In fact, the 27-year-old started just one Premier League game which came in the penultimate match of the season and his season was negatively impacted by injuries.
A repeated muscular injury kept him out of 14 matches across all competitions, but even when the Italian was fit, Arne Slot preferred to use the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota.
The Reds are once again favorites to win the league title on the best betting apps and have added the likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and days away from landing Hugo Ekitike – meaning Chiesa is now further down the pecking order.
This was amplified greatly in recent days, as Arne Slot decided to leave Chiesa out of Liverpool’s pre-season squad and Fabrizio Romano revealed that Liverpool are happy to let the Italian go this summer.
His deal in Merseyside does not expire until June 2028 which would typically play a part in Liverpool’s asking price, however, the Reds are willing to accept a lower fee after spending so little on the Italian last summer.
Since rumors over a possible move away from Liverpool began to circulate, Chiesa has been linked with multiple clubs and is heavily tipped to make a return to Italy.
Will Federico Chiesa Go Back To Serie A?
With Chiesa’s Liverpool future appearing to be all-but over, multiple clubs around Italy are reportedly willing to make a move for the Euro 2021 winner.
According to reports, Juventus are currently leading the race to re-sign their former star, but will face competition from the likes of Napoli and Roma.
Igor Tudor’s 2025/26 set-up with Juventus would suit Chiesa perfectly, however, the Turin-based side will be wary over his continued struggles with injury in recent seasons.
The Old Lady have already added some firepower into their front-line, signing Jonathan David on a free deal and brining Francisco Conceicao in on a permanent basis after a successful loan spell last season.
Juve finished fourth in Serie A last season, as Igor Tudor managed to secure Champions League qualification on the final day of the season and earn the managerial job on a permanent basis.
If the Bianconeri do not manage to bring Chiesa back, then Napoli are reportedly ready to swoop-in after Victor Osimhen completes his long-awaited move to Galatsasaray.
