Real Madrid are reportedly considering a move for Rafael Leao, as negotiations over a new deal with Vinicius Jr have hit a major obstacle.
Are Real Madrid Interested In Rafael Leao?
The Portuguese superstar has been one of the biggest talking points in this summer transfer window, being tipped to leave AC Milan and move on to a new challenge next season.
Initially, Leao looked all-but certain to leave, with reports suggesting that he submitted a transfer request and was pushing for a transfer away from Milan this summer.
Since joining the Italian side in August 2019 for around $50 million, Leao has made 260 appearances and contributed to 132 goals in the process (70G + 62A).
The 26-year-old has picked up a Serie A title along the way, while also winning the Serie A player of the season in 2022 and established his place in the Portuguese side.
Such a high level of performance has made Leao a very attractive target this summer and Bayern Munich appeared to be close to securing the superstar’s signature – even being favorites on the best betting apps.
However, despite talks occurring between Bayern and Milan, there was no official bid made as the Rossoneri are reportedly looking for around $120m to lure Leao away from Italy.
The Rossoneri are set for a huge overhaul, as Allegri plans a huge squad clear out, but also highlighted Leao as a ‘key’ member of Milan’s roster, as the veteran manager take the reins for a second-time next season and looks to bring the glory days back to the San Siro.
Despite this, Real Madrid are another side that could throw their hat into the mix, as Vinicius Jr is yet to sign a new deal with the club and talks have reportedly stalled.
Will Vinicius Jr Sign A New Deal?
The Brazilian star has become one of the best players in the world in recent years, establishing himself as Madrid’s star man alongside Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham.
Vinicius Jr has been in Madrid since July 2018, contributing to 189 goals in 322 appearances (106G +83A) and winning three La Liga titles, two Champions Leagues, a Copa del Rey, three Spanish Super Cups, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups.
Many expected the Brazilian to win the illustrious Ballon d’Or in 2024, however, Rodri was selected as the best footballer in the world and Vini’s 2024/25 campaign was less impressive.
Now, the 25-year-old has two years remaining on his current deal and was expected to sign a new deal before next season, but these talks have reportedly stalled.
Los Blancos are looking for Vinicius to take a significant pay-cut and this difference in financial views is reportedly causing an issue in negotiations.
