Multiple Serie A Sides Monitor Ruben Neves Deal As Portuguese Star’s Deal In Saudi Arabia Comes To An End

Multiple Serie A sides are monitoring Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves as his deal in Saudi Arabia ends at the end of this season.

The former Premier League star has been heavily linked with a return to Europe as his Al Hilal contract will come to an end in June 2026.

Neves moved to Saudi Arabia in July 2023 for €55million and has gone on to make 109 appearances for Al Hilal – winning two Saudi Super Cups, Saudi Pro League title and King’s Cup.

Despite this level of success, Neves is now looking to make a return to Europe’s elite level and is reportedly shutting down any negotiations over a new deal.

This has alerted multiple sides across the globe, including a duo of Serie A clubs in Napoli and Inter Milan – who are both on the hunt for a new midfielder.

Antonio Conte’s side have been linked with several midfielders after their recent injury crisis and Neves is the latest start to be added to the list.

The Partenopei are currently missing Kevin De Bruyne, Frank Anguissa and Billy Gilmour through injury, while David Neres is also sidelined.

However, the Serie A champions could be beaten to Neves’ signature by another Italian giant, as Inter Milan are ready to battle it out for the Portuguese star’s signature.

Cristian Chivu has enjoyed a strong start to his managerial spell in Milan, as the Nerazzurri sit top of Serie A and are in a good position to achieve automatic qualification into the Champions League knockout stages.

One issue that both of these sides will face when approaching Neves is the midfielder’s salary, as the Portuguese international is reportedly earning €17.3m per year (€332,000 per week).

Manchester United Intrigued By Ruben Neves Deal

One club that have become notorious with high wages is Manchester United and the Red Devils are said to be the front-runners in the race for Neves’ signature.

However, this has taken a turn in the opening stages of 2026 as Ruben Amorim was relieved of his duties at Old Trafford and the Portuguese coach was said to be a huge factor in the deal for Neves.

Additionally, Amorim’s exit has majorly impacted Kobbie Mainoo’s move to Napoli and the Englishman is expected to stay in Manchester – making a midfield signing unlikely.

Despite this major change, United are still huge admirers of the Portuguese international and could offload the likes of Manuel Ugarte, Casemiro and Toby Collyer to fund a move.

Although the signing may not be complete in January, Ruben Neves is free to enter pre contract negotiations under the Bosman Rule – meaning he can agree a deal with another club before moving in the summer.
