Monza President and former owner of Milan, Silvio Berlusconi has died aged 86 at the San Raffaele hospital in Milan. An official announcement from the hospital confirmed the former Italian prime minister has passed away, having spent six weeks this spring undergoing treatment for a lung infection linked to a chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia before being readmitted last week.

Berlusconi was famously president of Milan from  1986 to 2017, overseeing one of the most successful periods in the club’s history, where they won Serie A, the Coppa Italia, the Champions League and several other trophies.

He returned to football in 2018, taking over Monza when they were in Serie C, guiding them through promotion to Serie B, finally making it to the top flight in Italian football last summer.
